Babel
A historical fantasy on linguistics, colonism and what culture means. Based in Oxford it entwines history with a fictional form of silver-working, that involves academics translating silver between languages to create a form of energy.
At over 500 pages with extensive footnotes (necessary for the amount of translation in the book), it’s not an ‘easy read’. I loved it, especially the etymology and chains of all languages, especially the classics. 100% recommend for anyone who studied languages! 8/10.
