Desiree and Stella are identical twin sisters who run away from home in Louisiana in their teens. They go on to lead very different lives, which come to a clash later when their respective daughters meet. The story jumps between decades and has interesting themes on family and race. A new HBO series is in the works, so worth a read before then.
